ECEC has four sites with both Integrated and Self-Contained Classrooms in Albany, Christ the King(CTK), Schenectady, and Troy. The Center-based program is 4.5 hours, from 8:45 am to 1:15 pm. All teams use a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach using play as the medium for learning. Our goal is to continue to challenge students to greater independence in preparation for Kindergarten, reinforcing that learning should be fun.
Self-Contained Classroom provides students with a smaller class size and high staff ratio in a highly structured, language intensive environment. All students receive special education services within an appropriate peer group. The Self-Contained Team consists of a special educator, two teaching assistants, speech therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, and a social worker. Class size is either 8 or 12 students with inclusion opportunities daily.
Integrated Classroom provides a structured, language-rich program for preschoolers with special needs alongside typically developing peers. The Integrated Team consists of a special educator, early childhood teacher, teaching assistant, speech therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, and a social worker. Class size is 16.
